Shanghai, a booming financial and trade centre of China, is aptly titled as the "Paris of the East". It offers excellent Chinese cuisine, breathtaking acrobat shows, posh theatres, world-class concerts, sophisticated hotels, trade exhibitions and is a paradise for shopping. All these together with the port of Shanghai the world’s busiest one, has credited the city to be ideal for tourism and business as well. Enriched by the fertility of the nearby banks of the Yangtze River Delta, the city has emerged as the leader of commercial activities in this part of Asia. Shanghai houses the largest population that is approximately 15 million in all of China.
Shanghai literally means "above the sea” and justifies its claim as the largest city of China with an area of 5,800 sq kms. Right from the days of the Song Dynasty, nearly thousand years ago, the city evolved as a seaport and gradually developed as one of the coolest urban destination of twenty first century. Shanghai's history of revolution and culture attract travellers from all over the world and modern accommodations have come up in the city limits for both the leisure and business travellers. Several hotels, restaurants and bed and breakfasts have sprouted by the Nanjing Road of Shanghai. It is the centre for theatres and cinemas as well as one of the most crowded shopping streets in the world. The Yuyuan Bazaar area reveals the glamour of Old Shanghai with many shops and restaurants for the locals and tourists. Tourists often take apartment for rent by the impressive street of Bund and take a boat ride along the Huangpo at night to grab the best views. One should not miss a visit to the Huangcheng Miao and Yuyuan Garden and a view from the top of Pearl Tower to see Shanghai by day.
