PRAGUE

The capital city of Czech republic, Prague is located beside the Vltava River in central most part of Bohemia. Prague today provides accommodation to 1.5 million people. Many important figures of History and Literature such as Franz Kafka, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Charles IV spent certain periods of their life in this beautiful city. Due to its contributions in recent times Prague has gathered many names, which include names like "city of a hundred spires", "the golden city", "the Left Bank of the Nineties", the "mother of cities", and "the heart of Europe".
Initially in the 9th century, when Prague was established it acted as home of kings of Bohemia. But, the city actually prospered in the 14th century during the rule of Charles IV. He built the city anew and during his reign the oldest gothic cathedral in central Europe, Saint Vitus Cathedral was constructed in Prague. The Charles University, which is considered as the oldest university in central Europe was also built during this time. Many apartments for rent and hostels are available nowadays in this locality.

Considered as a major tourist attraction, today Prague houses visitors from different parts of the world in hotels and bed and breakfasts that are situated in different parts of the city. In fact, Prague can be termed as a railroad junction. Its transportation system comprises of three metro lines, trams, buses and a funicular to Petrin Hill. This actually makes traveling a very convenient proposition for visitors and residents as they travel from one point to other or explore the treasures of this magnificent city.
Prague has always been a multiethnic city, populated mostly by Yiddish and German speaking people. The city suffered the aftermaths of war and holocaust, when large contingent of its Jewish population were killed during World War II. Today, after going through the turmoil of World Wars’ and suppression of post war era in hand of Soviets, Prague has finally reached a high. Now, it is considered as the richest city of Eastern Europe as its economy keeps on blossoming.
