CYCLADES

Windmill on Mykonos

Cyclades is one of the few geographical formations of the world that have created a political exception. The Cyclades Islands are a group of 220 islands that form the Greek archipelago. The prominent and inhabited among these islands are Tínos, Ándros, Mílos, Náxos, Kéa, Páros, Serifos, Ios, Kithnos, and Thira. This part of the world is the best bait to bask in the sun and sand and occasionally, roam about in the historic remnants of the great civilization of Greece. There are many hotels, traditional houses, studios and villas to welcome in this small yet charming landscape in the Aegean Sea.
The Cyclades are basically the protruding mountain ranges that are drowned under the sea and are spread from the south eastern part of Greece to the south east of Attica. Ermoupolis, on Síros, is the chief town and administrative center of the island. The area often suffers from water shortage due to its strange environmental positioning but manages to surpass the odds and attract tourists. Foreigners often take the local apartments for rent or book into the hostels to manage a prolonged stay in the place within a shoestring budget. In the island of Amargos, worth visiting is the amazing Monastery of Hozoviotissa that is wedged into a huge precipice at 300m above the sea level.
The famous Cycladic culture and art has developed around the typical female forms that are curved out from pristine marble pieces. If it is the country side that attracts you most then hop into the Northern most island, old Andros, which is dotted with windmills and little fishing boats in a hilly background. For a thrilling nightlife and brush with adventure, the island of Ios is the best place to freak out. The islands of Milos and Mykons have also become popular destinations with Europeans in recent past to relax and recharge.
