Mongolia displays a complex history involving the invasion of many different people, the rule of different kings, the establishment of various kingdoms and the interaction of diverse cultures. Through different depths and infinite shades of time, the country has been exposed to enlightenment and modernisation. Situated in central Asia, Mongolia ranks as the eighteenth largest nation in the world but possesses a meagre portion of arable land due to the existence of the Gobi Desert in its territories. The topography of the country is otherwise dominated by the flat steppes and a tableland. Mongolia is also home to the Uvs Nuur Lake that has been recognised as a natural World Heritage Site.
Nomadic tribes reigned over the Mongolian terrain for good part of history and their aggression forced the construction of the Great Wall of China. Chengis Khan and Kublai Khan are the most famous invaders from Mongolia who expanded the empire like never before. Chinese and Russian ruled Mongolia in different periods of time. Mongolia’s independence was established on October 6, 1949. It is now being restored as parliamentary republic from being a hard core communist regime.
